REVIEWERS’ RESPONSIBILITIES
(Adapted from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Peer Review Guidelines)
When an editor of TinE invites you to evaluate a manuscript, reviewers are expected to consider and fulfill the following responsibilities:
- Conduct a thorough, objective, and constructive assessment of the manuscript, providing detailed feedback that can assist authors in improving their work.
- Review revised versions of manuscripts when required during the evaluation process.
- Submit review reports and all requested information within the specified deadlines.
- Provide the editor with an informed recommendation regarding the manuscript’s suitability for publication in the journal.
- Disclose any potential conflicts of interest related to the authors, research content, or other aspects of the manuscript.
- Report any suspected cases of research misconduct or ethical concerns identified during the review process.
- Recommend alternative reviewers if they are unable to complete the review for any reason.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the manuscript and its contents.
- Avoid using any information, data, or ideas presented in the manuscript for personal or professional purposes.
- Refrain from direct communication with authors, especially if their identities become known.
- Avoid revealing their identity to the authors.
- Do not transfer or delegate the assigned manuscript review to another individual.
- Ensure that the manuscript demonstrates originality, quality, and scientific value.
- Notify the editor if they become aware that the manuscript is being considered simultaneously by another journal or publication.
- Prepare the review report exclusively in English.
KEY ASPECTS TO CONSIDER WHEN REVIEWING A MANUSCRIPT
- Reviewers should carefully evaluate the following elements:
- Novelty and originality of the research
- Scientific validity and reliability of the findings
- Contribution and significance of the study to the relevant field
- Addition of new knowledge or perspectives to existing research
- Compliance with ethical standards and research integrity principles
- Organization, structure, and adherence to the journal’s author guidelines
- Adequacy and relevance of references supporting the manuscript’s content
- Accuracy of grammar, punctuation, and spelling
- Any signs of plagiarism, misconduct, or unethical research practices
